blue is my favorite color ever xD also, the peacock tarantula is actually one of the only naturally blue animals, and this is because blue in nature is very rare!

for example: do you know blue jays?

this little birdie over here is, in fact, not blue. it only appears this way to us because of a trick of lights! in this case, it’s a phenomenon called “rayleigh scattering” - the same phenomenom that makes the sky look blue (yes!) in fact, there aren’t a lot of blue things in nature, so most of the time, you’re being tricked :0

blue jays produce a pigment called melanin, which is brown / black. they also have keratin (the thing that makes up our hair + fingernails) and air, which are found in tiny pockets on the bird’s wings - when the light hits those pockets, all colors except blue are absorbed. so, since blue is the only color left in the wavelength, it’s refracted, making the blue jay appear… well, blue!

it’s sort of like a prism, in a way! and other birds (such as peacocks) have this, too. ^^

btw, speaking of "christmas spiders" - did you know there was a folktale abt that, mostly prevalent in eastern ukraine?

it's about an old widow living in a hut with her children in poverty; at one point a pine cone fell on the floor and took roots there, so the children started caring for it in hope they could have a christmas tree.

since they were poor, they couldn't decorate it, but on christmas day they found out that spiders had made cobwebs on the tree! those webs turned into gold and silver, and the family lived happily ever after :)

it's meant to be one possible explanation for the existence of tinsels ^^

they're unusual from other spiders in that they deliberately make their webs visible to larger animals, likely as a way to make sure they don't accidentally walk through them and damage them!

also, for this particular orb-weaver spider, their webs are more or less permanent! the others in this family regularly destroy and remake theirs every day :D

btw, their spikes have a purpose! they frighten their preys, but also help protect the spider from other predators :3

yep, there are “soldier” ants!!

i said that tasks were given to different ants according to a number of aspects, and the same goes for soldiers! generally, they’re larger and stronger! their mandibles are also more powerful than a worker ant’s ^^

in soldier ants, the mandibles work like pincers, which is how they fight off predators threatening the colony! on the other hand, the worker ants are smaller, but their mandibles allow them to carry / move things, so their tasks within the colony are more varied :)

also, fun fact:

while soldier ants are larger than their worker counterparts, their brain is the same size. ^^

in fact, i think the goliath birdeater might even be BIGGER than your hands!

and you'd be right not wanting to touch it, because this spider has a particular defense mechanism: urticating hairs. ࣪those hairs happen to be tipped with stinging barbs, so when a predator approaches, the goliath birdeater will rub its legs together and then launch miniature missiles at it!

(i've read people online say that just opening the enclosure is enough to make them feel itchy, since this spider's hairs fall out a lot, so imagine just holding one!)

urticating hairs aren’t exclusive to this species of tarantulas, though! they are few exceptions (like the peacock tarantula!), but generally, tarantulas have them. :D

The whole mimicry thing is so cool. Moth wants to be a jumping spider, jumping spider wants to be an ant, everyone gets their way. If you know any other mimicry insects they're so interesting!!

mimicry is very popular among insects, with two instances that i find particularly interesting (you’ll see what i mean very soon!!!) x3

for example, pretty much everyone knows about the stick bug. scientists say they started imitating plants as early as 126 million years ago, which is just awesome!

the second example here is the ladybird mimic beetle - because the ladybug has toxins, it’s unpalatable, so imitating it protects the beetle from being eaten!

the dead leaf mantis! a little bit like leaf animals, as it imitates a dead leaf as protection!

a robber fly, imitating a bumble bee - this one is an aggressive mimicry! by pretending to be a bumble bee, it can trick them into believing they’re safe when they’re just going to end in its belly <3

this one is really cool - meet the giant swallowtail caterpillar! most caterpillars eat on the underside of leaves to hide themselves from predators, but this one does the exact opposite!

the reason it’s able to do that is that it mimics bird droppings! ^^

another moth mimicry i haven’t talked about is the hornet moth! predators usually aren’t willing to try and eat hornets because they sting :D

this baby here is a katydid! it’s unique because it uses two types of mimicry: batesian and aggressive.

batesian, because it’s colored green like plants;

aggressive, because it imitates the response of a female cicada during mating season! thanks to that, it can lure in a male with ease :D

but the most interesting ones for me are…

the monarch butterfly (right), and the viceroy butterfly (left)!!

this type of mimicry is one i haven’t talked about yet, called “müllerian mimicry” - two (or more) very poisonous animals develop similar appearances as a shared protection tactic!

for a very, very long time, people thought viceroy butterflies were using batesian mimicry, until they found out that they were snacking on salicylic acid - something you can find in aspirins! (eating this made them poisonous and thus, unattractive to birds, who were their main predators!)

as for monarch butterflies, they’re poisonous because as caterpillars, they eat milkweed, which contains acid milky juice!

so, those similar appearances protect them :D

of course, this is a non-exhaustive list, because of how many examples there are. in fact, animals as a whole - and not just insects and spiders - use mimicry; anglerfish, snakes, chameleons, frogs... even some turtles!

I know one interesting thing about ants is that they release a certain chemical when they die so that other ants know to remove them from the nest, so scientists sprayed live ants with the chemical and the ant thought itself to be dead, and let the other ants carry it away, until the chemical wore off and it was like “oh wait I’m fine” and went back to the colony. It’s my fav fact about ants <3.

I love moths too! (Oh my god you’re totally reawakening my insect obsession). I don’t know much about them except the little brown ones everywhere.

discerning one species from another is really complex, but what you usually look at the most is their habitat + their wings!

for example, look at those ones:

this one is the hickory tussock moth, found in the eastern half of north america...

and this is the canadian melanolophia moth, found from florida to the south of texas!

as you can see, both are brown, but their wings are colored much more differently. not only that, but their wingspan (ie, the distance between each extremity of the wings) is different: 37-55 mm vs 30-36 mm respectively! there's a couple more differences, of course, but these are the most easily noticeable! :)

all that to say that there are a lot of species of moths (160,000 approx, and many haven't been described yet!!), and a lot of common brown ones, so it's hard to tell without a reference ^^

fun fact:

there are between 20,000 and 30,000 species of moths in australia as a whole :0 and only 400 species of butterflies!

Sorry it's an essay because I can't write succinctly

1. How did the evil corporation(insert it’s name please) feed?

As far as I’m concerned, the shady corpo experimented on him to check/make people to able to breathe under water. Keeping him alive was quite crucial to success so I think they would provided him with proper amount of of food or at least the full nutrient content preparation. However, it changed when his body started to rapidly mutate, grow and evolve into what he’s now. The vast increase in his need of food and the fact that the gills didn’t develop very well, due to the scientists not very smart move - mixing his DNA with atmospheric oxygen snake and whale, caused the team to shrink his portion and gave him bare minimum in form of drip-feed… Auch

2. How didn’t he die from literally any nutrient deficiency sickness?

As I said it before I do not know the lore very much only basis. So forgive if I mess up some facts about the events. Going back to topic, after the event of beating the life out of his guards/special troops everyone left the lab immediately. Leaving everything behind including the rations, which were sent there for the staff to eat, all kind of medicine - pills, drops, syrups, injections etc. and whatever crops left( no idea if in the game is any „farm” but the transport would be extremely expensive so I think they would love to slash costs especially when there are vertical farms which are efficient, cheap and easy to maintain and during evacuation they could simply destroy it if nothing like this exists there). He simply gain most of crucial elements via all those supplements. Especially via drips which are the least painful without activating all digestive track. I like to think the reason why his extra arm is in the bandages is the fact that he often injects himself with various needles and his veins are in horrible state. At some point point all these supplements will end and it won’t end well for him, but not yet. That’s solves a bit the issue of lack of scurvy, nyctalopia and any other issues alike. Here’s the misery fish and his banana bag of lovely Zn and vit C

3. Another snacking issue

He is in constant state of hunger. No escape from it. The small human stomach ruthlessly dictates the size of his next snack and for how long he cannot eat, because it’s full, but it’s better to have at least one full than none. That could cause another big issue which is connected with the unconditional reflex - food in mouth equals activiting the synthesis of digestive enzymes and HCl in both tracks at the same time. Both are connected to one nervous system and the information goes to both, no matter if only one should start working. Not good situation, one belly is digesting itself,easy way to get ulcers or esophagitis, which not only are extremely painful but also deadly especially in his case with no health care or even chance to get any. He had to figure it out quite quickly how to make his eating as harmless as it’s possible. The easiest way I think would be simply some herby stomach drop, the one which highers the ph and stops HCl from being created. But I fear it works on human part- So he had to create strict timetable - when he eats, when he takes drops, when he can eat again. To keep the snake stomach in check and never letting it be fully empty and miraculously avoid the sinister autodigestive ideas of snake element. So his best friend is a tiny bottle of disgusting drops from a nurse office

4. How not to starve to death with body like that?

Dense soup. Maximum proteins in the smallest velocity and in easy to consume and digest way. It passes both stomachs faster because tough long chains are already broken into smaller ones so it can be faster absorbed and used. It’s also very easy to make and can contain many ingredients giving the biggest diversity in one sip. Still starves because it’s not enough, but there is no better way :”)

And no he wouldn't threaten anyone that he would add them to his soup. He was a human and he exactly knows there are too many weird fellas out there. No way he'll risk getting new traumatic event, he won't take it anymore-

Warnings: this include Golden Guard Hunter so, he's kind of a adorable jerk sometimes, but it gets better, Reader is very shy and kind, Reader is a Beast Keeper, References to Belos but nothing grafic. Fluff.

As always a little context.

reader has always had a great connection with animals (perhaps her parents could have been farmers or already part of the beast coven?) and this was both a great advantage and a double-edged sword.

On the one hand, she could be quite safe in Bonesburgo compared to the average, since she could VERY easily tame the creatures that came across her, be they fairies, spiders, any creature.

Her family may even have been able to make a living from this lol

However, it also had its bad side since reader was not able to see that most of these animals and creatures were only friendly and docile to HER, generating incidents such as fairy infestations, bringing honeycombs of fire and causing injuries, things for the style.

Although, being bonesburgo, most people only saw readee as a very tender killing machine whom they should respect more than anything else xd.

Apart from that the affinity with animals only increased as she grew, drawing more attention.

reader joined the coven of beast keppers very early, gaining even more prestige, much to her bad luck.

Because precisely having had so much attention from such a young age made her become more shy and in a certain way reserved.

She simply doesn't like to be the center of attention, so she tries to be as discreet as possible.

More when sometimes she gets involved with famous creatures in smuggling or that Belos does not explicitly allow.

Maybe even thanks to this, reader tried to live as far away from people as possible, simply because that way she could raise her little animals and not so little animals in peace.

but obviously you can't always make a living from what you do in the garden (I would like to) and you go to the city from time to time for supplies.

NOW, I have two versions of how Hunter and reader may have met.

1- on one of these trips to the city or 2- the reader could be the apprentice of Eberwolf (the leader of the Coven to which she belongs).

For a certain matter of ease, I'm going for the second.

Training with Eberwolf is... strange, mostly because reader has to interpret everything he "says", but it's not as bad as one would think considering the feared reputation of the coven leaders.

Hunter would probably know at a superficial level about the existence of reader, mostly from the incidents involving her "little animals."

but I don't think they interact as such until the episode where Hunter wants to earn the respect of the Coven leaders.

There not only Hunter interacts with Darius and Eberwolf, but also with reader.

Maybe Eberwolf is trying to get Reader to go with Hunter to improve her social skills since they are both of a similar age, or maybe he just wants to annoy her, we don't know.

or even reader may be one of the few people who actually stay when Hunter calls the Coven leaders because well, he's the Golden Guard! He technically has a higher position than her and doesn't want to get into trouble.

and thanks to this small show of respect and "discipline" Hunter drags her with him to his mission as an "assistant" which, to the reader's discontent, involves interacting with people.

Regardless of how she has been assigned to Hunter, reader at first is used to just following him because she doesn't really know what to do in this situation, she is almost as socially inept as Hunter, so when they try to come up with ideas of how to get more people in to the emperor's coven, they unintentionally end up sabotaging themselves.

H: Do teenagers like the same things that we don't? rules, train-

R: fierce but cute animals? follow the strongest? silence?

H: animals that end our enemies for us? you are a GENIUS-

In a way they do bonding through their VERY WRONG ideas of normality and when they go to bring recruits they fail even more than in the canon.

(I imagine reader doesn't think much about FlapJack at first, she just can't help but see the Palismans as animals too, so she pretends she didn't see anything every time Hunter talks to him).

However, when the topic of the Flying Derby comes up, things definitely start to take shape.

I don't think Reader is weak basically, you have to have strength to handle wild animals even if they are tame, so when they practice a little, Hunter ends up QUITE impressed with how much weight she can actually carry.

(When he makes a comment about it he meant it as a compliment but it sounded ruder than he intended. He facepalmed for a long time).

Reader quickly becomes friends with Vinny and hee griffon, even telling her everything she knows about his specific breed type, diets, allergies, clothing size--

reader compensates her lack of speed with strength and her animals, speed is Hunter's strong point so they both complement each other quite well.

reader may even share a little of her philosophy with the animals (and people) to Hunter when they win, having a better understanding of each other and the "opportunities" they were given.

Even when the mission ends and Reader has to return to Eberwolf, Hunter continues to seek her out for other missions after that.

I would say that for quite some time their dynamic is like a "villain" that no one takes seriously with a faithful "servant", except that Hunter treats the reader as a sidekick or teammate. He doesn't feel like he can do the job without her.

especially when her positive affirmations become something he EXPECTS, or he gets used to having hair from whatever animal the reader brought with her that time, or when he learns to sharpen his hearing to hear whatever the reader murmurs when she thinks that He's not listening (which he's not doing! Not at all!)--

Let's say it's obvious to everyone except them.

If we talk about a relationship in general, it is a perfect balance.

Hunter wants to pretend for a long time to be the perfect guard, who doesn't make any mistakes and who is arrogant and so on. but in reality he is much more in need of attention and AFFECTION than he wants to admit.

reader is someone who evokes a certain tenderness and kindness, someone who you would think would be incapable of harming a fly, but is much stronger than she seems, she could perfectly turn all the fauna of the Boiling Islands against you--

Hunter learned quickly not to underestimate reader and sincerely likes that she can handle herself, of course, it doesn't mean that he doesn't like to show off a little and protect her from time to time, but knowing that she can protect herself leaves him very in peace.

Hunter wants to know as much as possible about the reader's interests to be more helpful when her "little animals" get out of control.

I honestly think Hunter is surprised how the reader can find any of the creatures on the Boiling Islands remotely endearing (except maybe King?) but he definitely understands how her connection to nature (which doesn't want to kill her) helps the reader.

Hunter supports any animal his partner brings in as long as it doesn't bite her off a limb.

although the Hunter post Time Skipe is definitely much more into the topic of animals and will happily introduce the reader to the WORLD OF WOLVES.

Hunter is happy to have a partner with so much empathy and who sees the good even in beings who objectively cannot see them that way, having lived with Belos all his life. Hunter is truly touched by how the reader takes care of the animals as if they were her own babies.

Hunter will definitely fight for the reader's animals (not only for her, but because at this point he is as in love with her as he is with the animals).

Hunter himself is shy, and although at first it was difficult for him to adapt to his partner's shyness, he quickly adapts and even feels safer with her because of it, because he knows that she will not judge him for having problems communicating certain feelings.

👏introduce👏reader👏to👏Darius👏both he and Eberwolf definitely saw it coming from afar, but Eberwolf still made good money.

READER TEACHING HIM HOW TO MAKE ANIMAL EMBROIDERY AND THANKS TO THAT HE DECIDES TO MAKE A FLAPJACK EMBROIDERY I CAN'T---

I know I just said that Hunter would not be overprotective, but I can see him being cautious in social settings since the reader's personality can be the target of either 1- teasing or 2- attempts to make her feel bad for that very reason, and Hunter ITS NOT HAVING IT.

Don't even get me started on unity day :,) Hunter would insist the reader not only not go to the congregation, but to RUN AWAY AS FAR AS POSSIBLE. If reader didn't do it and, worse, was with Hunter by the time the drain spell passed, both of them would be heartbroken to see the other in so much PAIN.

We could say that it is even the reader's personality that helps him in especially dark moments, like when he is in the human world (without reader) he probably tries to cheer himself up or tries to think of an alternative plan thinking just " What would do reader?" and so even if it's just being a little happy thinking that "she would probably hug a "bear" or whatever that thing is"

GHAAAA DURING THE COLLECTOR SPECIAL HUNTER WOULD BE SO WORRIED ABOUT READER AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO PHYSICALLY PREVENT HIM FROM COMING AFTER COLLIE IF HE TURNED HER INTO A PUPPET---

reader is like his TORCH of hope in the black sea where Belos left him, which encourages him to get out of there, see all the possibilities, be HAPPY. and Hunter wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING AT ALL.

OH wow! Two updates in 24 hours! Okay I really wanted to dig into this, because there were so many things on just the writing and dialogue and I LOVE it!

These two panels were fun, because there is something soft in Kendra’s face. Nostalgia, affection…also the wet beads of water coming off her hair, since she climbed out of the bath….but I’ll continue this rant later…

This is interesting….We have seen Donnie borderline catatonic so this could be Draxum’s latent parental instincts not wanting to push Donnie just yet. (Or worried that Kendra might be a trigger?)

Though funny that this was what pushed Casey to reach out….I included a snippet from Replica…but…lol both you and Kat having Casey very particular about her male family members helping her out, is understandable

Heh…that’s rich, considering you are gonna have your own lizard children Kendra…not that you know that, I guess… Still this feels like a “tempting fate” line/foreshadowing. Mostly, because Casey insisted that the father is human. (I think?) But likely a jab at how Kendra calls her “Beast” all the time.

This is the face of someone who is either gonna pretend to be a toy or a child if Kendra gets pulled over XD

Okay this brings me back to my thoughts after the first image…Kendra likely had been thinking about stuff since her initial talk while fixing Yuichi’s arm the first time. However the “event” and Raph’s chat with her possibly had her start really mulling over it. We know Kendra has been struggling with her identity in the way of not belonging. She accepted she was an outcast…and possibly still considers herself an outcast. However with everything she has been doing: the training, modifying the jetpack, upgrading Yuichi’s arm…it certainly is setting this precedence. If Kendra doesn’t fit in this group’s mold by default, she is gonna make some changes so she does.

The past Kendra would never adjust to accommodate others. She is unapologetically herself. So why is she going through the trouble to make little changes…why does she want to properly ask Donnie if she can stay with him? Because when you love someone, you accommodate them. And not in the way, that you should change yourself for someone. However if there are traits that are holding you back, and it benefits you both in the long run, sometimes little changes are necessary. Kendra is changing, because she wants this. She may not know how her dynamic will change, but she wants it to get better.

And…I forget how I planned to wrap this up, but…. It is an organic way to bring happily ever after that much closer, and in a way that doesn’t compromise Kendra’s identity. Again, your writing and dialogue are amazing, and the way you pair it with your drawings makes some great storytelling.

Oof writing is such a struggle but considering I do hours of acting out dialogue both irl and in my head certainly do help. NOW TO ANSWER SOME OF THESE LIL SNIPPETS U SEPERATED but under a cut cause this is a bit long lol

What I Feel Should Be Included in BJ3

1.) We need to go back to the original film's roots. The first BJ film was practically a "bottle" film where the film mostly took place inside the Deetz home. I feel the story needs to come full circle by having the story mainly within that house again.

2.) The model town also has to make a return. The last time the model was mentioned, Lydia wanted to chop it up and burn it, but seeing as we never see the board onscreen again, I think it's safe to assume Lydia just simply boarded up the the attic door once more.

3.) The return of Juno or introduce a Juno-like character. I know the original Juno actress passed on, but one option could be to recast and greatly alter the appearance like what they did with Charles but a lot less mangled. Some backstory on her and BJ's dynamic/specifics on his curse could be interesting.

4.) They need to make it harder this time to banish Beetlejuice. They need to even the playing field, and throw in a curve ball for Lydia where she can't just simply say his name 3 times to send him away. Maybe Beetlejuice can somehow find an object that causes confusion/makes you forget like the Rememberball (sp?) from Harry Potter.

5.) I know Keaton was against a lot of BJ screen time, but since this is the final installment, I think if they evenly spread out a couple minutes of him here and there, it won't ruin the "magic". Random example but Chris Hemsworth only had like 30 min of screen time in the first Avengers film, but it definitely feels like he's onscreen more. Not saying there should be an hour worth of Beetlejuice screen time but maybe 30-35 of screen time spread out could work.

6.) If Lydia is going to willingly marry BJ this time then the two of them need to TALK more in part 3. This time around they can talk about how BJ fell for her, what he likes about her, about Lydia's anxieties, her being at a crossroads with her show being over, making Astrid a priority, BJ cheering her up, making her laugh, BJ also sharing personal stuff and scaring off Astrid's bullies.

7.) Exploring BJ and Lydia's psychic connection. This time she can project herself to him if she needs to, and he's able to temporarily share his powers with her. Maybe a scene of Lydia possessing BJ to dance as payback, but it ends up leading to a playful and energetic dance number where they both end up having fun together.

8.) Delores and BJ somehow switch places where she gets his curse where if you say her name 3 times she gets summoned/banished and gets locked up in BJs old grave. Beetlejuice is now the new "soul sucker" who turns to Rory and says, "I'm taking back every last shred of Lydia you took from her." and proceeds to suck out his soul, burp and says he tastes like shit. Beetlejuice raises his hand and pressed it against Lydia's, essentially returning the stolen "energy" her toxic ex bf took from her.

9.) The wedding actually happens this time at the Deetz home because third times the charm, and because BJ losing a third time is boring and predictable. BUT there's a curveball: Beetlejuice can't leave the house until he can find someone to pass his "soul sucking" powers to (since it would be dangerous for a mortal to be walking around freely with that kind of ability).

BJ is irritated by the turn of events, but says he finally got his bride and promises someday he'll take Lydia to Hawaii for their honeymoon but in the mean time they can get plenty of practice for their honeymoon in their home. XD He then gives Astrid some money to "scram" and go to the movies to give them some privacy and to "come back after the cigarettes part". Then proceeds to carry Lydia up the stairs bridal style.

Some highlights from the Director/Writer Commentary of The Return of the King with Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens, and Fran Walsh:

As they mentioned in TTT, they were originally going to put the Smeagol vs. Deagol fight as a flashback during the Dead Marshes. Before they decided to use it to open RotK, their placeholder idea for a scene to open RotK was to do a sped-up helicopter shot from the Paths of the Dead, across the plains of Edoras, to the Golden Hall where Aragorn wakes up from a nightmare (and then goes and talks to Eowyn). Very glad they went the direction they did!

In the final shot they used when Smeagol takes the Ring out of Deagol's hand, the actor playing Deagol actually blinked, but they liked Andy Serkis' performance so much, they had Weta go in and freeze Deagol's eyes so they could use the shot XD

You know, I forget sometimes that they didn't even have Saruman in the theatrical cut at all. Boggles the mind.

In the scene where Aragorn comes out of the Golden Hall and goes to stand next to Legolas, who's looking out at the night...Viggo and Orlando weren't in the country at the same time, so they shot them separately and then put them together @_@

You know, I never thought about this before, but when Gandalf touches Pippin's face, they had to make sure his hands looked extra big! So they used an actor called Big Paul, who had the biggest hands they could find, and Ian McKellen directed him for how to move his hands in the shot XD And Big Paul is the Rohan guard who gets shoved aside when Merry and Aragorn rush up to the top of the wall to watch Gandalf and Pippin leave!

THEY SHOT A SCENE OF LEGOLAS TALKING TO TREEBEARD ABOUT THE ELVES LEAVING MIDDLE-EARTH?!?!?!?!?!?! :O Originally, it was going to link the Isengard scenes to the scene of Arwen and the other Rivendell Elves going through the forest, but then because of all the Edoras stuff in between, the connection was lost. They also said something about Legolas reciting a poem! And joked again about putting it into the 25th anniversary edition. THAT TIME IS COMING UP, PETER JACKSON!!!! I WANNA SEE THIS SCENE!!!!!!

They talked about a "library scene" during the whole sequence where Arwen goes back to Rivendell and confronts Elrond about how he saw her son, etc. They wouldn't say what happened in the "library scene," but talked about how they should include that in the 25th anniversary edition too. a;ldkfjs;dkfljsd;kfljdslfk

The people on set who had a crush on Sean Bean were called "Beanstalkers"! XD That's the best; every fan to this day ought to call themselves that!

Similarly to the scene with Legolas and Aragorn, the little bit with Legolas and Gimli as everyone's getting ready to leave Edoras was filmed separately because Orlando and John weren't in the country at the same time. So they filmed Legolas' shots with Brett, John's scale double, then filmed John's shots later, filming both of them against greenscreen. Then they took some unused footage from the Edoras set and put it in the background. It just boggles my mind how many of these cobbled-together scenes there are, because it feels so much like all the characters are together in the real location!

RED ALERT RED ALERT THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!! They mentioned Beregond!!!! 8D When talking about why they put in the scene where Pippin and Faramir talk (when Faramir says the uniform Pippin's wearing was made for him when he was a child), in order to forge the connection between them that will ultimately lead to Pippin saving Faramir's life, they talked briefly about Beregond! They describe him taking Pippin under his wing, showing him about the city, and called the relationship between them "quite sweet" :3

Another little connection between Pippin and Faramir I don't think I've ever thought about before, that apparently Billy Boyd thought about when doing these scenes, is that Pippin is the only son of the Thain of the Shire, so there may have been a certain amount of pressure and expectation on him. Obviously, he's so young and probably didn't spend too much time worrying about that while scampering about the Shire, but maybe that's something he thinks about while watching the way Faramir and Denethor interact. Maybe a contrast to the way he would interact with his own father, maybe a reminder of the way he would be scolded? Hard to say, but it's interesting to think about.

Uuuuuuughghghg, so frustrating to listen to them talking about the scene on the steps where Frodo sends Sam away DX No matter how many times and how many different ways they explain why they did it, the explanations never quite make sense to me. "We needed there to be more tension." WHY WAS IT NOT TENSE ENOUGH THAT THEY WERE GOING INTO THE LAIR OF A HUGE EVIL SPIDER?! "There wasn't really anything happening on the steps otherwise." YEAH, BECAUSE YOU PUT THE WHOLE CONVERSATION ABOUT STORIES IN THE PREVIOUS MOVIE! Also, why not just cut from one or two shots of them climbing this awful staircase to a shot of them entering the cave? "There needed to be a payoff for Gollum's scheming." WHY WAS GOLLUM BETRAYING THEM TO SHELOB NOT ENOUGH OF A PAYOFF?! "We knew InStInCtIvElY that Frodo needed to enter the cave alone." WHY? WHY?! I've never understood that. They get separated eventually in the book, so why not just ramp up the tension of that in the movie, instead of making the characters so OOC? "We knew it would shock readers of the book, and if we'd changed that, what else might we have changed?" You know...I really, really love these movies, and I appreciate what these three were able to accomplish so much...but sometimes I kind of hate them too -_-

The horses didn't want to walk down the hill on the cobbled streets of Minas Tirith, because their steel shoes were so slippery on the stones. So they all had to be re-shod with rubber shoes. What were horseshoes made of back in ye olden days, though? Iron? Did people run into the same problems back then?

I never really noticed this before, but Aragorn never wears Anduril on his belt! He straps it to his horse, and every time you see him with it, he's just holding the naked blade. This is because they made Anduril so long it was really hard for him to wear it from his belt or to pull it out of the scabbard in a natural way XD

The aerial shot of all the Rohirrim leaving Dunharrow was originally shot to show Gandalf's cart heading into the Shire, but since they didn't use it for that, they repurposed it for RotK!

To get Elijah Wood to foam at the mouth when he's stung by Shelob, they gave him two Alka-Seltzer tablets to put in his mouth and work up some foam with his saliva. I've always wondered how they do that sort of thing in movies, but no one's bothered to explain until now....

Sean Astin's audition scene was holding Frodo after Shelob ;A; Apparently, they (or at least Philippa Boyens) were a little skeptical that an American actor would be able to do Sam's character right, but actually a lot of the English actors who auditioned for the role had a hard time with the Shelob aftermath scene, but Sean nailed it :')

Other than the close-ups, they used a dummy for Faramir on the pyre most of the time. Now I'm just imagining John Noble crouching on top of the pyre, cradling a dummy XD

The first Orc that Aragorn kills on Pelennor fields is played by his son Henry! XD

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME. They actually filmed Sam pushing past the sort of psychic barrier of the Watchers at the gate of Cirith Ungol, but they didn't put it into the extended edition! I love that part. Like...I'm not even sure why, but I've always thought that was such a cool little detail, and I've always been a bit bummed it wasn't in the movie, though I was thrilled to see the actual Watchers at least there as a sort of homage. And all along, they'd actually filmed something for that after all and I never knew! :O

You know, I never thought about it before, but it makes sense that they had to replace the sky digitally in a lot of scenes in Mordor, because of course when they filmed it, the sky wasn't always completely cloudy, but Mordor needs to have a complete cloud cover at all times.

When Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens first saw the footage of Sam carrying Frodo up Mt. Doom, they sent a fax (lolol 1999/2000 technology) to Sean and Elijah. They made the first page look all formal and official, and then on the second page it just said, "You made us cry." :')

Andy Serkis refused to have Gollum stand on two feet until the scene in the Crack of Doom. There were a few times that PJ directed him to lurch onto his feet or something, but Andy wouldn't do it. He wanted to show the difference in Gollum physically when he has the Ring again. What a cool detail!

Originally, the whole part where Frodo's hanging off the ledge and Sam is begging him to reach for him happens after the Ring is destroyed. It's really interesting to consider the slight nuances of how different that would be. The final version makes it almost seem like the Ring is still calling to Frodo, like he wants to fall into the lava and join it, whereas originally it was more like "I've lost the Ring and now I have nothing left to live for."

PJ made a sweet comment in the scene where everyone bows to the four hobbits: "This is a moment where there's always a huge sniffle in the audience when the movie's going, and it's usually me." XD

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?! They shot scenes of what happens to the other characters when the hobbits return to the Shire! There is footage out there somewhere of what Legolas and Gimli do, what happens with Faramir and Eowyn!!!! ;aldkfjsd;fkldslfkjd 25th anniversary edition LET'S GOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Fandom AU

For this prompt I did not only one, but two drawings for @okartichoke ace attorney au, which is called ace avian! Why two drawings? Well originally I was going to just do the DiagoxMia one, as I haven't drawn these two enough and I knew they were some of Okartichoke's fave characters.

However, it turned out that at this point he hadn't yet made a design for Diago yet! I thought he did but nope, my brain just made up a post concept (⁠´⁠-⁠﹏⁠-⁠`⁠；⁠). So I started working on the other drawing whiletalking to him about the art I was making for his au. Which lead to him making a design for Diago/Godot and sending the designs to me so I could draw Diago :D! but I still wanted to draw the backup drawing cuz I really liked the post and I enjoy drawing Mia and Maya, so I kept working on it :3.

If you want to know more about the au here is the master post from Okartichoke here, though in short, it's just ace attorney but they got bird wings :P. and I wanted to force myself to draw wings so I knew I had to draw this au for the prompt!

Overall I'm very happy with these drawings, especially the Mia and Maya one as I feel like I drew Diago a bit too skinny oops, hopefully next time I'll draw him better >:-). plus the second pic is my first time drawing Mia in a non-canon outfit so that was fun :-D. Also I didn't quite understand what tinted wings mean for the Fey's, I could of just asked Okartichoke about it, buuuuuuut I instead looked at his art of the Fey's, and took some artistic liberties with colouring the sisters wings, hopefully you don't mind (plus I still gave Maya heterochromia, even though she technically doesn't in the au cuz Okartichoke draws her with dark brown eyes, cuz I like to draw her with heterochromia :P).

Also, both Mia and Diago are touching each other's wings cuz I remember an ace avian post mentioning that was considered an intermate act in this au so I figured it should include that detail because they're so in love XD. Also idk how I feel about Mia's top being pink, maybe it should've been black or yellow but oh well ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯ I should probably stop rambling now XD

I'm finally getting around to reading Transformers: Exiles and

omg. It is so bad. Like, bad on multiple levels.

I read Transformers: Exodus a few years ago. It was... OK. Definitely not a great work of literature, and there were some "huh" moments in it, but it was fine. But now I'm starting on the next book. I didn't look at the TFWiki entry for Exiles until last night, but just the Errors section is absolutely sending me. (The idea that the book was panic rewritten by Hasbro just before publication would explain a LOT of the issues I'm seeing.)

As someone who loves the franchise, it physically hurts that this guy was paid to write this. It is completely phoned in. Now, I'm sure he was writing on spec, and was probably handed an outline or specific plot points/characters that needed to be included, but even with that limitation it could have been a LOT better.

Anyway I'm going to jot down some of my impressions in this thread because I want to make sure I remember why I didn't like this book, years down the road when I see the book still sitting on my bookshelf. (If I even keep it, that is up for debate.) I'll even keep away from the things mentioned in the Error section of the wiki entry, since that's low-hanging fruit.

(If you enjoyed this book I'm glad for you, but I am down to just hate-reading it now. Sorry about that.)

I've finished Part 1 and some of the things that stuck with me have been:

There's a thing in fiction writing that's often bandied about, how you should show and don't tell. It's hard to explain to new authors what this means, and why it's a bad thing. Well, this book has about a million examples. Instead of showing how a character is feeling, it just tells us. Optimus was stressed. Optimus was worried. Prowl was irritated.

Related to the showing/telling thing, this book loves just giving a laundry list of things that happen, regardless of how important it is. For example, we got a whole paragraph on what happened after a race on Velocitron. None of these details mattered to the story in any way, but we still got a whole half page of detail about it:

We got a multi-page scene of Prowl cultivating an informant. He gets named (Armco). A few chapters later Prowl brings him in saying "Here's someone who can keep his mouth shut" and then IMMEDIATELY someone tries to blow up the Ark, and Armco falls out of the plot, never to be seen again. RIP Armco, we never knew ya.

Weird character note: The Autobots show up on Velocitron and discover there's a schism in the leadership there, with factions forming on both sides. While the Autobots are preparing to leave the planet, the "bad" leader says something relatively innocuous to Optimus, who then punches the Velocitronian in the face. This sets off a giant battle between the two factions, whereupon the Autobots dip and go through the space bridge. Brilliant.

I have been reading time travel post ROTJ Vader fics and it´s been such a treat for me, they have a certain charm and allow for such awesome character work, especially when he goes back to the PT.

Because by all rights post ROTJ Vader is the most unaligned character your will ever find on star wars and at the same time the one who worries the most about the other characters given what he knows and his own experiences with both sides of the force picture his perspective, he understands and wants to protect people he feels a kinship for their experiences, including sith like Count Dooku, Ventress and Maul just as he tries to protect his family and the Jedi Order out of guilt and remorse and because it´s the right thing to do, inspired by his Son example that I want to hug him.

He even has some very complicated and intrincate feelings for Palpatine, as he should, because wether he likes it or not, he spend more than 20 years with him and genuinely liked him for a good period of that time. He was there with him even if they killed each other in the end and that isn´t easy to forget.

One of those fics, the "force of many sights" is one of the best because there Vader comes back as baby Anakin and its just so cute to imagine terribly menacing Vader in the body of a small, cute and even more traumatized kid than he was originally, but more than that, the changes he did to the past there, like getting himself into the creche instead of being trained by Obi-Wan as a way of getting close to Palpatine and convince Dooku of not falling to the darkside, it´s so nuanced and so well thought.

His love and care for Obi-Wan but also his hurt at remembering him abandoning him on mustafar so he avoids developing a close relationship with him this time around while also making sure he is getting over losing his Qui-Gon because he can´t help but worry, he definitely didn´t miss having feelings!! (he says with feeling XD) For this same reason he avoids Padme because he wants her to have a happy and long life without him even if only he will remember their kids :(

This context allows Vader/Anakin to be hurt, afraid and angry over so many of his young experiences but now understood as an adult what was done to him and what he did, like remembering killing the younglings while living with younglings and teaching them how to play hide and seek so they learn how to protect themselves(ouch my heart) or remembering his father figure leaving him to die but without hating or blaming Obi-Wan while also considering him family and loving him so he does his best to protect him from Palpatine, such a fresh take.

All of this mixed with his own mental games with Palpatine´s "mentorship" their "power games" he used to enjoy as Vader, now fully aware of what he is doing, doing his own kind of playing the "innocent victim" being fully aware and angry/sad/afraid of his old mentor, while undoing all of Palpatine´s plans and at the same time fight himself to stay in the light for the mere fact he was a Sith for 20 years and it´s actually hard to get over that without some time to process.

Such awesome reads everytime.

But also i wanna ask about your thoughts on Eurylochus in Epic the Musical and how he is portrayed in the musical, since you're very honest on some things you dislike in it, i am genuinely curious on how you think of the musical version of him.

I see. I find it interesting that you clarified after 5 different replies Anon! Hahahaha! XD But yes I suppose I should have seen that coming. Like I said it is not impossible. Many soldiers in the war we are expecting to be at least 15 16 or 17 years of age. It is possible but we already analized that before. I for some reason imagined him closer to his 20s when he joined but both hypothesis are possible. Elpenor is a blank page after all.

I strongly dislike the plot of the musical yes. But I had mentioned to another post of mine that ironically Eurylochus was much more interesting as character development even than Odysseus himself. I think since Eurylochus was not THAT much expanded in the Odyssey apart from his role as Odysseus's oposition and kinda his "nemesis" in one way given how it was Eurylochus the one to persuade the men to slay the cattle of Helios. His character development, given what we had from the Odyssey, is not bad. In fact I came across some of the deleated or rejected projects and I am glad they rejected them because they pictured Eurylochus almost like a villain and that, in opposition of that massively toned down Odysseus they went for in the beginning, would have been catastrophic in my opinion for the rest of the plot. Given what they used at the end was not bad at all.

I actually find it so ironic and sad for me at least, that Eurylochus was more Odyssey-accurate and respecting the character development than Odysseus himself.

His fear was a massive part of character development and given how some scholiasts placed Eurylochus to most of the difficult adventures of Odysseus, including the cave of Polyphemus, which I also tried to memorize in my own drafts for Odyssey:

it is no wonder that he was frightened, let's say in parts like Circe. That part was accurate enough and up until that point I was very satisified with the portrayal of Eurylochus despite the changes that had started to emerge to the Musical. I also liked his primary theme song "How Much Longer" given how accurately it seems to depict the character development he would logically have; Eurylochus has been through much more than the average person would so no wonder he was often tripping at the end. Now the way Eurylochus was treated overall in the musical was very good. I strongly disliked the context he was placed in aka the plot of the whole thing because I feel Eurylochus would have shone much brighter in a more accurate setting the way he was given voice and more lines in the musical than in the Odyssey. His character development was much more natural than any other character in the musical; Polites was massively stripped down as the "kind-hearted relief" given how he was a clean-slate character that was not as bad as others but still I think Polites would have shone better if he had more sides than just childish gladness and innocence. Then we have Odysseus who was massively toned down to be an almost "from white to black" character development; from an edge to another; he started off as innocent like "don't hurt this" or "don't kill that" (not counting Astyanax by the way. Mostly speak about the early drafts I saw plus his behavior with Polyphemus and all) to go to the other end

Eurylochus didn't follow that trap. He was depicted as a human character with doubts and worries, strengths and weaknesses. In fact characters like Eurylochus made me even more disappointed at the way the musical treated the source material because the existence of the first two sagas and Eurylochus probed that he can take liberties, he can create an engaging plot without screwing over the original material. Now Eurylochus in Mutiny song had me cringe but that is not because of the character itself but because of the plot. Ironically the character was very accurate in that scene but there the plot felt very rushed; it didn't show the true depth of their fear and hunger waiting for days and days in the island of Helios having their provisions done and all but the reasoning behind his attack seemed compatible to Eurylochus's character, if that makes sense.

So I disliked only some polarized moments (or the whole nickname thing with the random "Ody" placed there out of nowhere. Like he never called him that ever and that was placed there to appease to the modern audience with pet names and nicknames which not only were not a thing in antiquity but also Eurylochus never openly used that before but okay) but as a character development is not bad. It was accurate to the source material and given more voice to work with.

I've been catching up on Detective Conan because I got bit by the hyperfixation bug and finally finished the Kyoto School Trip episodes for the first time and I was reminded of your fic where you did the plot so much better because the canon was just so goddamn dumb T-T Ai would never let Shinichi have the antidote in such a public place, Shinichi should never have walked around Kyoto without some kind of disguise in place, the romance was underwhelming and undeserved (but then again it always has been) and I am going to read your Kaishin ski trip fic with Seran because that is much more in character and less insulting to both the audience and the plot of the series. Sorry I needed to rant and remembered how annoyed you were in your fic and now I understand why.

Tee, help us settle a debate. Who is the worst Assassin's Creed father? (Not considering real life people like the Borgias)

We all know about Bill, but my choice is either Arbaaz or Nikolai. Arbaaz was willing to let Jayadeep fucking die because of the creed and Nikolai abused Innokenti that even Daniel got fed up with him.

Now, I don't know if "not knowing you're actually a father" actually qualifies as being a *bad* father, also I chose to believe that Desmond and Ezio would have been at least decent fathers to their illegitimate children had they known of them.

I also don't know if Vidic is a father but he'd be a shitty one.

I am totally not the right person to settle a debate considering I am completely bias towards Desmond so I feel obligated to pick Bill XD

As far as I know, Vidic doesn't have any children but he did say he thought of Daniel Cross like a son and he experimented and used him as a hunting dog so he doesn't have a good record.

I will say that there are a lot of bad fathers in AC. On the top of my head, I can think of at least 2 XD

Nikolaos tried to kill his oldest child while staying back and letting his youngest child die (the fact that both children lived doesn't really downplay his actions and inaction)

Poseidon (does he count as a historical figure?) is less of a bad dad and more of a neglectful dad who let his sons do whatever they want without realizing that some of them have been doing illegal shit to one up each other and become their father's successor.

I'm sure there are those who would say that Haytham Kenway should be counted as a bad father but there's a lot to unpack on that one.

But really the only way to settle a debate is via voting lol.

Some random notes from yesterday's (25/05/2024) Scar stream. Not even all of the best parts because there were so many, at one point I was just laughing out loud pretty much continuously.

A chatter mentions Scar being the "mob boss." Scar is immediately delighted. In the shopping district he won't be the zoo keeper, he'll be the mob boss with his own outfit etc.

Scar built the nether portal for his train (it looks super cool!) and is now transporting skeletons to the nether so they shoot anyone approaching it because he wants to discourage people from using his nether portal. He put his own heads on the skeletons and calls them "Scar Junior." Only one of them dies.

Doc shows up for distraction and support. He teaches Scar things about redstone, like how you can place a lever on the block next to a rail to activate it. They complain about the new YouTube layout, Doc blames Elon Musk, who according to Scar lives in Doc's head rent-free 28 hours a day.

Ren shows up too. Doc and Ren start to complain about shipping. Scar tells them a heartwarming story about his local UPS guy.

apparently Doc was a wandering trader in the woods as a kid. He traded home-cooked German food to American soldiers from a nearby base. For ammunition.

Next topic: the "worst" (unrestricted) fireworks. At some point Doc does an exaggerated German accent. Doc also made a joke about Scar being 48, Scar says he prefers the rumors about him being smart and handsome, Doc says that's just the truth.

Scar and Doc getting trolled by horns, including Cub shouting "help" which they both thought was real for a second. Chat suspects "horn man" is Grian, but it's such a huge variety I'm pretty sure it has to be Cub. Finally Cub shows up (briefly)

After all the skeletons were moved Scar wants to add a drowned. He got the go-ahead from Etho to take one from his farm. Scar blocks off Etho's portal and Doc wonders what he's getting dragged into, calls himself an Ethogirl once again

unfortunate realization: a drowned will not attack people with tridents in the nether because there's neither water nor night time. But then chat did experiments and they say it should work? Spoiler: it works very well.

the first trident guy refused to put anything on his head, but the second one put on Scar's hat \o/ so he can even move during the day. It becomes night though, Scar asked people in chat to sleep and Bdubs logs on ^^ a few seconds too late though, Ren slept first.

Oh noo, the trident guy hit a free-ranging iron golem and was killed. Bdubs joins the group just to say it serves them right. Bdubs is telling on them to Etho.

Doc refuses to mess with Etho's landscaping. Bdubs makes a walkway but very carefully. Scar, head in hands, this is what it's like with Etho fangirls… next Minecon, Scar says he'll print Bdubs a shirt with Etho's face on it. Bdubs says Scar is the one obsessed with him, coming over all the time.

Scar talking about a Hermitcraft rule called the "open seas rule", if something is built on the ocean it's free for taking. (Bdubs is skeptical)

Bdubs says dealing with Etho is like dealing with a rabbit. Don't pester it, you just have to leave it and it'll come to you. "How many moms does Etho have on this server." "This is what it's like having a friend." "Oh I wouldn't know" xD "We're friends not moms"

Doc complains about how hungry he is. It's late and he really wants to eat his mini pizza. Scar: why don't you just get a feeding tube, then you don't have to eat.

Bdubs: "I'm just taking notes for Etho later." Scar: "this is just Limited Life the whole time." "Every second is a second closer to Etho logging on and catching you guys"

Scar is now shifting the blame for their misfortunes to Tango because he never offered help or even made jokes in chat. Threatens to throw him out of the LNC, even ^^

"Ooh, you're not trapping Etho's portal!" "No, it's his own" "Oh there's no reason for me to be here then." Bdubs logs out immediately, then…

NOW Etho logs in xD "Etho's here, he's gonna come over here and cause an issue." "What's this about trapping my portal?", and other quotes such as, "I'm watching what you're doing Scar and it's infuriating me." "Put some water down" ("It's the nether!"), telling Bdubs he should have let his iron golem die instead of healing it, and "What you're building a rollercoaster over here, what is this"

"How do we do this, Doc?" "I don't know, give Etho some blocks and let him do it" "No no, I came for the show" Doc is just standing there with two dozen tridents in the ground in front of him xD

"You're like the muppets, those two older ones" - Doc about Ethubs. "We're the comic relief" "Yeah that's it"

Etho is concerned, they're representing Hermitcraft after all, people will think they're incompetent. Etho: "Tango, what do you think?" "Oh god don't tell me Tango's here." Tango is now here :D

Scar: "just to be clear, I am competent, things just didn't go to plan…"

Scar is in protest to both the nether and their nether hub. Etho: "If only we had a couple people around here often referred to as the best builders ever…"

Etho, contemplating the skeletons and trident guy: "So what are you going to do if Cub comes by with his Thorns armor?" Scar hides his head in his hands.

aww, Bdubs and Tango telling Scar LNC will help him with that mountain ^^

I imagine in Century Egg au, MK is unfortunately going to very likely be an only child. Mainly because now, everyone is going to try to stop Wukong from pulling thay stunt again, including the Jade Emperor and Queen Mother, after MK coming into the world was such a close call. Like full-on, Lao Tzu forbidden, do not have another child it WILL kill you restrictions are placed l.

They spend so much time instilling this fact into Wukong, that they forget to pay attention to Macaque/any previously created stone eggs. XD

Macaque shows up later with the Eclipse twins' eggs (created from his time in Diyu), and the whole Celestial Realm is like; "Oh gods damn it."

Both monkeys are happy not to "bake" another stone egg anytime soon if they can... but since they've proven Wukong's point, reconciled, and reignited their romance; they can try making kids the "fun way" now ;3

Xuannü & Sunü (goddesses of you know): *both pause mid-mediatation with a realisation* Sunü: "Should we tell jiejie [Xiwangmu] about this?" Xuannü: "Nah... its their own business. I ain't no snitch." Sunü: "Yeah, thats why jiejie yelled at you for not saying anything when Sanniang ran off with that mortal..."

Fun fact; said goddesses are said to be sisters (likely sworn) of Xiwangmu/Queen Mother, as their domains (war, sexuality, longetivity, and motherhood) are said to be intertwined.
